Vince Paske
I'd like to see a release from Discreet anouncing a 64 bit version of Max 6. Imagine one cpu clock cycle pushing through twice the data...mmmm :gebigeek:
xgarcia
how about Maxtreme drivers for the current Max6...that would be nice.
radioVOY
what about this MAX 7.0 64 bit edition running on windows xp 64 with a prescott 5ghz 64 bit with 2 megs of cache. or simply MAX for mac os, how do you think will run in a G5 dual 2.0ghz processor 64bit?. Greg Hess
Just a note... Moving to 64 bit won't provide an instant 2x increase in performance. The increase may be more gradual, and possibly smaller then one would imagine (but still very noticable). I'm just guessing off the top of my head (so bookmark this to prove me wrong later), but I'd gander depending on app, you'd see anywhere from a 20-60% increase in performance. I think the lower end of the spectrum is more of a realistical "1st gen" result...as individuals learn to better tweak their code, gains will be higher. The biggest difference between 32 and 64 bit is the removal of the 2 gb of ram per process limitation. As you can imagine this will have a HUGE effect on the DCC market. No more out of memory errors .
xgarcia
Greg....where the heck is Maxtreme for Max6? Service Pack 1 for Max6 is going out already and still no Maxtreme. Geez...
Greg Hess
xgarcia. Discreet doesn't work with any manufacturers of hardware anymore. Thus there is a large delay between drivers/maxtreme/firegl versions with a new max release. Usually the only time a maxtreme comes out, is AFTER all the users hammer the hell outta pny/nvidia to get a new one made. I'll see if I can get a release date, or even if their working on one... Christopher Nichols
The 2 gig limit is the biggest difference... but there too it will take a long time before we can take advantage of it. At work we have over 1000 processors on our farm... to replace all of those with 64bit procs can take years, as well as a huge expense. The move to 64bit will be a long and very painful one. Greg Hess
Ya pretty hilarous actually. I posted on cgtalk...nvidia emailed me about it. They posted it...then immediately retracted it, then reposted it again. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Make sure to only use the new maxtreme FOR Max6. IT will NOT work with ANY OTHER MAX VERSION. isagreg
Hi guys! Our company ordered MAX 6 and we'll be getting it probably next week. I have MAX 5.1 SP1 installed on my computer with MAXtreme 4.00.29. The graphic card is Quadro4 900XGL. Can I have both versions of MAX on the same machine? And also can I install the new MAXtreme without uninstalling the older one? I think we're not gonna switch to 6-th version immediately, so I would like to have both versions for some time. Thanks.
