Tommy L
Anyone heard anything about the possibility of rendering throught he new x-box due out before christmas? Ive heard some rumours about the specs: Xenon CPU triple-core 3.5GHz processor Xbox 2 Memory to Pump up to 22.4GB of Data per Second (The Xbox 2 will have 256MB or more of unified memory, equally accessible to both the GPU and CPU) No desicion yet made on including HDD Sounds like a bargain. AJLynn
That would be interesting, but whether it would ever happen is... problematic. I think it's safe to say that nobody will have an unauthorized boot disc, because of amount of work MS has put into keeping this stuff locked down - they want to make sure the only apps that run on it are the ones they license - so it wouldn't be a question of an open source renderer running under Linux for PPC, it would have to be a MS-licensed piece of software put out by an Autodesk, Chaos Group, etc. Don't hold your breath. luckytohaveher
Build it and they will come... We will have to see what happens. I know there is a great economic incentive for the previous modders to figure out what to do this time around. I would never advocate breaking any kind of licensing, especially from such a great company as MS; however, people will do what people will do. Looking backwards, the cost of a rendering system is not in the hardware -- it is in the time and dependability of managing it. There was a post of the previous version and it didn't appear to pencil... We shall see!
