alfienoakes
Hello to all. I am new to this forum, so not quite sure of the set up yet, but have jumped across from the Autodesk forum.. as you guys also seem to know your stuff!!! OK, heres the question. I have downloaded Vray 1.47 advanced demo, but am using VIZ 2006, so problems all round there. So I am waiting to see if Chaos group can send me the version before, 1.46, which apparently is OK with VIZ 2006. In the mean time, I have downloaded Vray Free.. but I cannot seem to get it to do a thing. If I look through the tutorials, they all seem to be for Advanced. Its mainly interiors I am looking at. What can I expect Vray Free to do? Should I have Vray materials, lights etc.. as I don't seem to have any, just the renderer.?? Thats quite a large question to be going on with, but ANY help would be great!! Alfie
BrianKitts
as for the getting dated versions of the software I can't help but the quick version about using free is.... No you don't get vRay materials and lights... and no you can't save out irradiance maps. I work on MAX7 w/ Vray advanced @ work, and use MAX6 with vRay free at home. Vray free is fun for playing around with, but for really doing production work, in my opinion advanced is the way to go because of all the features that aren't available in the free version. alfienoakes
Thanks for that. I am hoping that chaos group will come back to me later.. which is today for some..! I will wait for the full version before getting to stuck in then. Off home now.. its nearly 7pm in UK..! Cheers Alfie
alfienoakes
Just an update.. Had a couple of tips off Tim (rmaytee).. and he has shown me the error of my ways..! Firstly, I obviously posted in the wrong section; damn newbee.. and secondly, I am now a slave to Vray.. What a thoroughly good program!!
