here's my latest...i'm trying to get some images together to start up a small operation on the side.

some c&c would be great. i need to pull something together for the side walk...and i don't like how green the metal is around grade.

rendered in vray free, viz 2005. modeled in sketchup for the most part.

thanks,

for the metal i just use a glossy material around 300 for that level, but i take the iterations/subdivisions down to 1 or 2. that's where the maxwell like noise comes in. i think it looks a little less CG and it renders a whole lot faster.

as far as sketchup modeling, i just group things the way i'll be applying materials in viz or max. the metal panel and mullions consist of 4 or 5 groups.

i think the use of a hemisphere with an image mapped to it is very important. even though the metal's refectancy is rough, it still picks up the colors from the skymap.

the trees are just standard opacity maps....

looks real good. the trees are really my only complaint. maybe if they were desaturated a bit, but if your using clipmaps, maybe by adjusting the output levels so they're not so bright green. the main reason why is they reflect too strong in the glass. i like your levels on the glass and metal. i think you should leave the grass bleeding on the metal as it is. if the canopy is reflecting that brightly, i think the grass would too. good job. hope to see the final.

here's the glass settings...

standard material

opacity 30

reflection 50, vray map- no glossyness etc

refraction 40, vray map- filter color 221, 255, 229.

metal-

standard material

reflection 50, vray map

glossiness 300, subdivs 1
