some of the best results I have gotten in C4D are from using an omni light for the sun with a yellow/orange tint and area shadows (play with brightness) and a sky dome with HDR material in the luminance channel, and of course the radiosity settings found in the advanced render module. I would strongly suggest getting the 2nd DVD (radiosity interiors) in the 3dfluff.com collection if you use advanced render.

http://dvd.3dfluff.com/prodinfo.htm

It explains how to effectively use lighting and the advanced render module to get the exact results you are looking for. good luck and look forward to seeing more.

cheers,

13 hours??? thats a dissgrace! :p

it's all down, as usual, to the lighting rig.

internally, try 2 or 3 low light emitting omni in-fills.

externally, you need a strong gi casting sky object at say 150% illuminance maybe, and a nominal strength infinate or spot light for the direct light effects. looks like you already have the direct light in there, but it's possition and strength are all wrong.

once correctly possitioned, you might want to try some inverse square fall off on it with some area shads.

to speed up the rendering try turning down the dd to 1 (your new infill omnis will compensate for the lack of light bounces) and use a different AA filter. Perhaps 1x1 by 2x2 with a threashold of 20%. if you find your reflections are now too jaggy, put a separate render tag on them to individually up their AA qualities.

there's also a fair few max sample splotches in there. try lowering the main samples down a few hundred, then upping the max samples a 100 or 2.
