Sketchrender
I was wondering if they are compatible as we are thinking of upgrading from 7 to 8, as we may be buying a new licience and i will have to upgrade my 7 which is less than a year old to 8 if the new 3d person is to work smoothly. The upgrade is 1000 euros apparently, day light robbery. Anyway is the latest build of vray compatable with v8.. Thank you is there a new version of vray out soon? phil
martincg
hi philip, v-ray 1.47.03 is compatibile with 7.5, so i think it is compatibile with 8. Soon will be 1.5 v-ray /month or around/. 1.5 was introduced on Siggraph this year an has some good news - check Chaosgroup site. And I agree with that robbery. ShaunDon
I haven't heard anything about vray compatibility yet, I'm holding out that discreet won't do anything drastic to invalidate plugins from 7-8. That being said, may I ask your firm's reasons for upgrading? Because we've looked at the new features and from an archviz standpoint there's nothing about 8 that I'm looking forward to. Alas, we will upgrade because our vendors and clients will, and we need to be compatible with their scene files. Yup, $400/year/seat for that privledge. Someone tell me how that's legal. Christopher Nichols
Sources that I cannot reveal have told me that they have been running it without any issues.
Ricardo Eloy
It should be compatible, since Max 6-7-7.5-8 use the same version of Visual Studio.
Sketchrender
Thank you all very much the replies. The reason we are thinking of upgrdaing is purely, becuase the new 3d person and I can work seemlessly together, ie swap files back and forth, and merge ref's ect. I have v7, and we will automatically get v8 if we buy a new licience. I agree there is nothing as far as i am concerned in v8 to make me upgrade, as i currently only use it for rendering , buit that is changing daily. I have a problem with the work flow. I rarley get finished drawings so models change constantly. Which is when I have to punch a new hole in something i have to boolen tham and then it becones triangulated, and can become corrupt. I generally start by tracing a 2d poly, or rectangle, and place the opes and then extrude, but with changes i either have to go back and restar or boolean. Am i right in this matter.? thank you all again. phil
Wayne Ken
You have the answer here. http://www.vray.info/news/n0144.asp The current 3ds Max 7 version of VRay also works in 3ds Max 8.
