Importing CAD models into 3ds Max 7

Hey all,

Just joined the CG Architect forums the other day and being a 3dsmax newbie (approx 3 weeks using Max 7), I need your help in finding the best 3D translator between Ungiraphics NX and 3DS Max 7.

I've had ok resluts importing the VRML and STL files but the rectangular faces are actually 2 triangular faces butt up against each other. But, when I apply a material to it, I get two triangular mapped materials.

I've had better results with, of course, DXF, but, the circular 2d faces look like hexagons. Can I smooth out the ridges on a 2D circle?

Has anyone had any success with translations from CAD files to 3ds MAX 7?

I've got more questions to post, but, I'll just start with this one for now.

Thanks for any help you may offer up.

Mike

Hai,

I do all modelling in cad and import to 3dsmax as 3ds... since i draft the 3d model in cad in surface modelling after importing i'll get rectangular surface...

if you get hexagons for circular it can be avoided by increasing "facetres" in autocad to 6 to 10 and then import the mesh...

if you get tringular material after material applied it can be avoided by clicking

2 sided and faceted in material editor below shader basic parameters

hope this helps
