i'm not familar with MR so can't really advise on settings but the scale of the chair is wrong and there is a general lack of detail, which in my opinion is what makes an image. try adding a door frame and skirting boards it should make a world of difference.

the camera angle - try lowering the camera postion to about 1600 / 1700mm above floor level and don't have it angled down as much - feels a little unnatural at the minute.

the floor material needs less shinyness.

do you have an area light placed slightly above the floor? what is the ring of light around the low level wall?

keep working at it, mentral ray does have a heavy learning curve and many settings but it only gets easier with practice.

I noticed, from another thread, you were studing Multimedia at uni, can i ask where as i graduated with a multimedia degree a few years ago now.

definate improvment.

unfortunately i now think you have corrected the camera too far! In my Opinion raise the camera and level off the view. maybe try changing the lens size to see more of the room.

the lighting levels look much better, but the chairs kinda feel as if their floating.

Do you GI or final gather turned on with mental ray? there doesn't seem much gradient of light levels across the image at the minute.

yea the GI is on,with quite high settings. i still havent figured out how 2 use the final gather yet.

also when i try 2 create some kind of enviroment shadows on the chairs and table, nothing works. the direct light i have pointing down from the celling wont do buga all! ive tried every sort of shadow, but cant get anything on the floor. the floor is just a normal map, nothing fancy.

any ideas?
