arquitaty
Hi all! I am a sketchup beginner so I still a little lost. I watched all the get started tutorial but I still have many doubts. Someone knows f it is possible to get a tutorial that shows step by step how to create something and not only the tools which are available like in the get started tutorials? Thanks in advance
AJLynn
I think most people learn this by checking out all the tool then messing around, never used a real tutorial but Sketchup5 has the "Self-Paced Tutorials" in the help menu, and some people I worked with got a book called "The Sketchup Book" that they found useful. I found it very intuitive having experience in Max, Autocad and Illustrator. I generally begin by importing a CAD plan or an image to trace, then work from there using mostly pen and push/pull. (If you import CAD you'll probably have to get the enclosed parts that should be filled to fill by drawing over one of the lines.) Also, I don't know why @Last doesn't have keys assigned to most of the tools automatically, but it's a lot faster if you set some up - Window menu -> Preferences -> Shortcuts. I use a modified Adobe scheme like this: Line - P Arc - A Select - V Move - M Rotate - R Pan - Space Push/Pull - X (for eXtrude) Paint Bucket - G Remember that groups and components are important for various reasons - e.g., if you use the line tool to draw on a side of an object, you are adding to that object, maybe subdividing the face, etc, but if that object is in a group that you're not working inside you'll be drawing a new object but can still use the old one to snap.
