mskin
My shadows are pretty dark, I would like to lighten them up a bit. Using Mental Ray w/o final gather... FG was taking way to long. Boss wanted trees at the last minute, I don't own any so i used 3d Max trees, makes it look like a christmas cartoon. Comments appreciated... Thanks
IC
I think it looks a bit too basic. Unless you are trying to get a scale model look, you need more texture work and some form of GI. Your modelling looks more than competent so keep experimenting with the lighting and texturing.
ovzoc
Try to light it with the tutorial Hao La provided. I tried it and it rocks!

ovzoc
Go to tutorials section. There is a guy (Hao La) who has posted a good exterior daylight tutorial using a skylight and a mental ray spot (for rendering with MR)
mskin
Update.. Broke down and bought some cars. Replaced 3d max trees with X-card, don't like how they render shadows on to eachother. Id love some advice on how to fix that. lowered decay in mental ray to 1.75... maybe some other stuff but im not quite sure.
sunilarch
to avoid the self_shadowing of trees right click on the x-card group and in the properties and avoid the tick on recive shadow option
