2 - I can't believe you guys bought alpha software. Why did you do it? Was it to save an extra $300, cause it ended up costing you guys a LOT more. BTW, I have a bridge I would like to see ya.

You are way off base, buddy! I saved an extra $1200!

I'm glad this is out in the public, for my stupidity shall be instructive to others. That's worth the $800 I'm likely to lose. Wait! No, it isn't!

About that bridge--I've got to clear out my business checking account by year's end or else owe more taxes--I may be interested, but can you get all the snow and ice off it first?

Ok... I am glad you guys took what I said lightly. I am sure that many companies will have learned from NL mistake. Not sure if it is too late for NL or not. I don't think the NL is an "evil" company. But if they had gone through public free alpha, and slowed down their production, all of this may have gone far better. No pressure, large testing ground, to responsibility ot the "stock holders." Worked farily well for Vray and Brazil back in 2001.

At the time it seemed like a good idea :D

The first release was planned for June when announced in october/november.

And the images that were backing it up were (still are...) amazing. And Next Limit are behind Realflow 3. They are not newcomers that nobody knows. And 50+% discount per license.

Add all that in the bag and you'll have an idea why so many people took the deal.

Like some others, I've sometimes used it in production (2 to 4 hours rendering @ 2500*1875) so I can't really say it's a loss.

It's just a pity it turned that way.

By the way, how do you call a software that has less and less fonctionality along the process ?

"Beta" had no more the alpha maps that "Alpha" did, and "RC" still has no alpha maps but also lost sun and sky... that was maybe the way to speed-up rendering times !?

....

You don't want to do that, What your eyes sees, and what yur brain thinks it it sees are actually two very different things. You fov would be insane, your focus woudl be crazy, and if you did an animation, you would pretty much throw up.

of course, this was a JOKE ;)

reading david marr's 'vision' and other books related to human visual perception reveals of course a rather complex relationship between what our eye captures and what our brain does with this informations...

As the NextLimit/customer situation is getting worse by the minute with the deleting of the 'How may want a refund' thread, I wanted to try one last thing before being forced into more drastic action. I posted a thread asking for a post of the OFFICIAL NL policy on refunds. That way everyone could be aware of where we stand. It would save all the speculation. There is probably a legal one, but I thought it would be a good starting point to have NL post their position.

The thread was deleted, but had at least 60 views before it went.

A moderator sent me a message saying he simply couldn't allow the thread, suggested people should email NL privately. I told him that was silly and not helpful, but the fact that the thread was deleted speaks volumes.

Ernest,

Hasn't NL already stated that there are no refunds? I can't remember where I read that but I thought at least a moderator had stated that. Anyway I think you know the answer, if they were willing to give refunds they wouldn’t have deleted your e-mail.

I think it's ridiculous that they have taken to routinely deleting threads that have every bit of relevance to the situation. It's an obvious attempt to cover up what is going on, the only reason I can think of for doing it is because they are desperate for cash. I'm really pissed that this is going on, but I'm going to be even more pissed if NL goes bankrupt and I'm left with nothing to show for it but a crappy beta.

Have you tried calling them and talking to them directley?

Not really. Someone posted an email from NL saying that, but there hasn't been anything official and public. That's what I asked for, pointing out that the product was a no-show (which might change the policy) and refuting the logic that you cannot return DLed software (MWR1.0 would have a new serial number). It seems reasonable to ask about policy. People discuss EULA terms on forums all the time.

As I've been saying, I think that is exactly where we are heading, and soon, a few weeks at best. That's why I want to see the policy stated to get us a start at forcing a schedule on them. Also, at some point they may go from looking like crooks to actually being crooks. Getting them to re-examine their policies is a good way to force them to look in the mirror. I doubt this conflict is what they want at all. But they still have our money and are still lieing to us. At least one of those must stop.

Have you tried calling them and talking to them directley?

No. Excuse--I don't speak Spanish.

I hate to admit it but I think you are right; there is no way of telling what these guy's are up to, no matter what they say. I'm still amazed how they have taken a customer base that was behind what ever they did and virtually turned the tables and now 75% of us don't trust them any farther than we could throw them.

I hope your plan works.

One of the members on the Maxwell forum had a good idea, what are the chances we can have a Maxwell section opened up on this site? Next Limit doesn’t want any dissenting voices on their site and it would seriously boost the CG Architect community to have all of those talented artists participating in this forum.

I'll make one later tonight if you want to spread the word. Not to say I or our moderators will not be moderating the forums for inappropriate behavior, but you will obviously have a bit more leeway to post your views here.

I will also add a V-Ray forum as well as these two represent the vast majority of the users. For now the other 3rd party renders will stay in the current 3rd party render forum.

That's ok, I've got a million dollar liability policy for CGA for cases like this. :)

Mine's 2 million. We should be fine then.

I really do want to propose a plan that will allow us all to get on the same page with NextLimit and get the product completed without so much angst. It's fairly simple really, but it will reqiure both NL and the customers to compromise. neither has shown much flexibility.
