CHE
Hello everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to resell a 3ds max stand alone commercial license. Have anyone done this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ernesto
lambros
As far as I know you can't transfer max's licenses on your own. Perhaps try contacting Autodesk
DennisHolland
Officially not regarding the legal letter, but contact with Autodesk is highly recommended to get 'on speaking terms' if you know what i mean....
CHE
Thanks guys. I will contact AutoDesk to make sure I can resell my 3ds max 6 license. If so, would anybody here be interested?
DennisHolland
Maybe some usefull advice to get there a bit smoother... Contact your local A'desk agent, ask 'm if he's willing to get in touch with the authorities at Autodesk client service for your transfer.
quizzy
I allways was under the impression that licenses can not be transfered in the US. And you can not sell your US license to a european country as well... in the EU it is possible to transfer licenses.. this is what i've heard when buying max1.2 in the good old days... DennisHolland
I picked up a version 4.2 back in montreal 2 years ago, was allready installed in a second hand workstation bought from a fellow out there. With both the sellers' and my personal info it was no problem. Again, that was 3 years ago and oh how naive, I told Joep about the transfer Michiel Right now the standard is different, more tight, and licencing software is changed as well. So that's why the statement is 'contact your local reseller or get on speaking terms' nobody said that you can transfer your licence just like that...at least, i didn't Dennis
Munz
CHE, I would be interested in buying your Max License if it was on Autodesk books, So I could upgrade it to the most current version. Did you have a price in mind? munz
Munz
It does seem possible, this is an email from my resaler "Before you purchase any older copies of Max you would want to have the current owner transfer the license to you. Otherwise you would risk not getting proper authorization on the update. If you decide to do this let me know. I can help you with the whole procedure." CHE
I went over to the 3ds max forum to ask the same question. Here are some quotes from the thread: Quote [No, I don't think this is allowed by the purchase agreement. The only time you can resell max is when you're selling your entire company and its part of the assets. Otherwise you're not allowed to resell it as per the EULA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.--m] Quote [Worst Policy EVER! (Fat Simpson's comic book store guy voice) The answer is no unless it's an asset transfer or someone at AutoDesk is feeling generous that day. They are not the only ones with this policy, but I think say in a situation were your not going to use it anymore you should be able to sell it. You paid a lump sum, and if you did the same for a car you would be able to sell it. I have yet to hear any real justification for this other than greed] Quote [To me, if you really are just buying a license to use something, then even though (as they say) you don't OWN the software, you DO own the license. If I own the license, I should be able to sell the license to someone else. Ownership implies that you have control over a thing. If I don't own the software, and now I don't truly own the license (since you control what I can and can't do with it), then what exactly do I own?] Quote [To me, if you really are just buying a license to use something, then even though (as they say) you don't OWN the software, you DO own the license. If I own the license, I should be able to sell the license to someone else] Munz, I bought the version 5 license online. Then I bought the upgrade to 6 thru a reseller in the Chicago area when it came out. I have all the receipts, paperwork and all the goodies that came in the original and upgrade boxes. I even have the 3 manuals for version 5. I'm still not sure about how much I would ask for it. Let me know if you have any further information.
