Sketchrender
I have a wedding reception dining room/ ball room to model and render. Full of mirrors, silver walls and fabric. Fun.......if you like that sort of thing. I have been asked to model the lights in the images, how should i go about it. They are crystal, and there will be one large one about 4 metres long, and then 16 smaller ones. What light source should i use. I am using formz and Max 7 and vray 1.47.03. Any advise would be gartefull. Phil
vertexART
hey there, modeling approach would depend on the level of detail U need, of course. fastest way would be 'lattice' applied to a box with enough segments, and then some nice mat and environment. see attached, box(6,30,5 segments) and lattice (5 segments for edges, 'octa' 1 segment for corners) hope it helps. Sketchrender
Hi Thank you very much for the reply. The amount of hits it had and nobody except you replied. I have modeled it , but not as detailed a you have but I will redo it after seeing your version. I generally model in formz but i now see the advantage of max in this approach. vray ..the lights have you used them. I had started putting in a vray light sphere, and could not get any shadows or any sort of lighting effect in the room, except a glowing sphere, but the rest of the room remained dark. I have used omni, with vray shadows, the the time is clocking up, big time. Any idea ? I will let you know how I get on. many thanks again. phil

Try increasing the multiplier of the sphere light, as well as checking 'no decay'. Also, uncheck 'store with irr map' if it's turned on, cause that option would require GI to be enabled. I would send U the file but it was Max 8 version, main word being 'was'. I haven't saved it, sorry, when I saw U are using Max 7. post some efforts and see if someone else can help. cheers
