Ernest Burden III
Sorry for the continuing questions--but are the new Barton cores just in the AMD XP3000--or any earlier, slightly less expensive CPUs. Will having a Barton make enough of a difference over earlier cores? In trying to spec a new machine in a hurry, I am trying to not spend TOO much, but get good stuff. I have someone at Boxx willing to try to get a system built faster than the regular quoted time. Three weeks from now I won't need it, and I don't have the money to buy it until this week when my projects start. Typical. Anyway, if the XP 2700+ is almost as good as the 3000+ then I can more easily justify the Quadro4 750XGL over a lesser-line Quadro4 (380XGL or 580XGL are the choices). They do not offer the GF4ti 4600 (or any GF cards). My big fear here is that I would be stuck by timing of just driving over to CrapRus and buying any decent white box just to have a little more horepower for this tough three weeks of work. Greg Hess
Ernest, Did you check your pm? I already replied to this I'll just post the reply here. http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1783&p=2 There are 3000+ Barton's, 2800+ Barton's, and 2500+ Barton's. 2700+ would be pretty close to a 3000+ in performance. Check your mail for "other" points.
Ernest Burden III
Did you check your pm? I already replied to this I hadn't checked it because in the past I had it activated to email me when a PM came in. The settings got turned off at some point, probably when I updated the profile. Now I see it. I got my checks into the bank so I have some money to buy a machine, lets just see if Boxx can get one together quickly for me. Thank you for the help!
