dbarc
I've got a scene with literally hundreds of materials. Buried somewhere in there is a material causing my network renders to abort. I know the material I'm looking for but finding it is proving a nightmare. Without going through hundreds of lines of materials and submaterials in the material/map browser (The search slot therein is pathetic) is there anyway to search it out? Any help gratefully received. Gus_Rayvus
Does the material you are looking for have a certain bitmap in it? Or what is the corrupt map?
Jeff Mottle
I'm assuming you have already checked the errors generated by Backburner? Does it mention any material or give any hints?
dbarc
I know what the material is (and the missing dll which is causing my headaches) The problem is finding it buried somewhere within 30 buildings worth of complex materials and multi/subobject materials. In the end I can scan down the list in the material/map browser to find it - a massive pain in the neck but you'd think there'd be a less crude method in this day and age - does someone know of a better way of searching out a scene material or map? Gus_Rayvus
If the bad material has a bitmap in it you could use a simple script which you or I could make. That would tell you all the objects that have this certain bitmap anywhere in their assigned material. But as far as going through all the different slots avalible in a material and searching for a map that is not a bitmap. I have yet to figure that out. dbarc
If the bad material has a bitmap in it you could use a simple script which you or I could make. Err - you defintely mean you! I seem to have spent the last 8 years avoiding the issue of scripting! I have actually found and removed the problem material I initially had (by the tedious method of eyeballing the incredibly long list) .. but I am now having the same problem finding other materials! Vray for instance stated an error 'exception map #3' for instance. Unfortunately there are hundreds of map #3 and no easy way to search for them. I can't believe it's so difficult to find all the map #3s and wonder whether I'm just doing it incorrectly. Alternatively, does anyone know of a plugin which gives all the maps in your scene a unique name to make it easier to work out which one is screwed? Guest nazcaLine
what a problem...never happened to me but i'm sure it will happen sometime. i thought it'd be enough with the "search photometric/bitmap" from the Utilities panel.if that doesnt work...somebody should write a script!!! MegaPixel
So to sum things up - MAX needs a better search engine built into the Material Browser? I'll go with that.
