gfa2
I've read several places about the "going rate" for animations being around $10,000 per minute. This is just a general rule of thumb thing, but has anyone else heard that or something contrary?
STRAT
thats an amazing price i charge for my modelling time. an animation on top i treat like extra stills. if the client just wants an animation out of me then i may charge him 3 or 4 thousand english pounds, for example. this is because it may take me 2-3 weeks to model, light and texture, then finaly render an animation. if a client just wants stills, then i might charge the same price because my time is just the same. if the client then wants a minutes worth of animation on top, then i might charge him an extra grand for it. all these times and figures i stated are just to illustrate a point. if i charge a client 10K for an animation that mean a good few weeks of my time are taken up doing the donkey work. Crazy Homeless Guy
i agree in not breaking up into time, but according to how long the space will take you. this way you break it into level of detail, and complexity. if i have an animation that is the outside, a lobby, and 2 rooms, then the proposal would be for how long it takes me to model, texture, and render each of these areas. then i use a multiplier that increases that cost by a certain percentage. the multiplier covers camera animation, composting, out put file, and the such. you can easily get to $10,000, but the detail and quality need to be there. ..don't forget, a good animation will take several weeks to do by yourself. on the other hand, if the client wants a mass model, and just a fly around, it really isn't going to take you long, and it really isn't worth that much money. lambros
I do animations that go down from 500 euros to 2000. I charged a client 700 euros for an 1 minute exterior animation of an already modeled, textured and lighted house. He wanted several effects, including a realistic animated fireplace fire, and the effect of the sun going down, getting dark, lighting the house etc. I had to charge 2000 euros for a complete interior 3 minute animation of two office floors.
