Recommended Posts

hi guys hope everyone is well....

im looking to buy a new rendering system, and dont know where to start i currently run all my visualisations off a standard home desktop... but the rendering times, and the need for my gf to use the computer too is starting to get to me hahahaha....

any recommendations of systems i should look at would be appreciated...

as a part time freelancer i prefer the 2 computer set up.

for rendering and post you certainly need a fast computer. i go for intel dual proc xeons or amd opterons with a gig or 2 of ram. but on a cheaper budget a single proc 64 bit machine with HT and dual core will suffice too.

then i'd also buy a standard decently spec'd desk top home computer. this is for the donkey work - all the modelling you do. you dont need a super dooper machine for this, leave that for the rendering. even your average home pc you can buy in your local computer shop is pretty good for modelling purposes.

this way you have a nice fast rendering pc and a work horse pc you can continue working on as the renderer is chugging away, meaning you dont have to down tools when you're rendering/compositing.

not as expensive as it sounds, (maybe up to £2000-£2500), and certainly frees you up with your work flow.

if not, then i'd definately reccomend a dual core 64 bit single processor machine with 2 gig or ram.

makes sense strat thanks....

well ive currently got a standard workhorse pc which i run my c4d and photoshop from...

the budget for the render system is : roughly about 1000-1500 pounds...

what do yous think of that? is it enough? or will i need to raid my piggybank...

any links to suitable computers would be great... or would you guys build your own?

cheers dan

1.5 K sounds fine for a nice highish spec single proc render horse. and if your current pc runs c4d and photoshop ok then ur quids in.

besides, you can always use the new pc for modelling and photoshop work when it's not rendering.
