Sketchrender
The image below is from a current project i am working on. They are chandeliers, a simple box , with an alpha map, and a vray glass IOR set to 2 for crystal. The setting are quite low for the render, but the chandeliers are taking 15 hours on their own. Any suggestions on how to reduce glass times in vray. They have to look and i quote from the architect " sexy" How would I make them sparkel.........Not my choice of words, but what they want. Is there another setting to use to get them looking better, but with less time. phil
Arnold Sher
Hi Philip, The reason it is taking forever to render is because each rectangular piece of glass is being calculated for reflection which in turn is making your calculations very long as there is so much of it. The way to get the "sexy" look going is to take a normal standard material, get the right colour of the glass going on which in this case is greenish with a tiny bit of blue in it,opacity set to about 50 and in the reflection slot dump falloff set to about 35. That should do the trick. It will give you edges glowing while reducing your rendering time. Hopefully that helps...
3da
I disagree, standard materials takes up a lot of render time in Vray. Rather use the VRayMtlWrapper. Use a standard material as base with the desired opacity level set. You also have the option of generating GI which then produces light and eliminates the need for any light objects.
