This is my first attempt at using vray. I know its not full of furniture, etc yet, but I'm just trying to set up my basic lighting. The output is very flat. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

for me looks very balanced, v good work

maybe I'd ve multiplied the exterior light, twice maybe and, following this way , deepered its shadow

Theres a Vray Light covering the surface area of the windows, one covering the ceiling of the main room, and a couple following the shape of the corridor.

I agree, a very nice looking render - but the guest chairs are not the right type for the use. Perhaps replace those with some more appropriate for clients to be comfortable while waiting for their appointments. A modern leather couch may look really nice here.

Thanks for the replies. I completely gree about the chairs. I only copied them from behind the desk to test out my lighting really. I have since rendered the image without the chairs.
