radii
I believe one of of my favourite drummers, Gary Husband, is from Leeds, isn't he ? Must be something in the water. First off, I must say that this kid is very impressive. I don't think I've ever heard anybody below the age of 20, that plays at that level. Buckets and buckets of talent, chops and great teachers/role models. Most lifelong practicing drummers would give anything to be able to play like that. Being a bass player myself, I am however super picky when it comes to drummers. They can be your best friend or absolute worst enemy. There is nothing like a rhythm section that gels. While drum solos can be enjoyable (just like bass solos :-) , it is the drummers ability to play in an ensemble (listen to others) that makes or breaks him, in my humble opinion anyway. Chops and speed mean nothing if one has nothing to say musicaly. This kid is very young though and (life - ) experience will shurely broaden his vocabulary and increase the "wheight" of his playing. I am not trying to start an endless dicussion on the pros and cons of virtuosity in music, but just my 2 cents. By the way, PBS had a special on " the art of violin " on virtuoso violin players from the past 100 years or so. Such a great example of a good mixture of talent, chops and musicality. David Oïstrakh rocked !!

Know what you mean. I was a bass player my self. I played with Bill Nelson for a while, and toured the USA in '85.
gfa2
I've been playing drums for about 16 years now. I think it's about time for me to quit.
Fran
Phenominal. I called my husband, a drummer, up to see that. He was suitably impressed. My 7-yr-old son said, "He's good. Not as good as Daddy though." Gotta love the loyalty.
