alfienoakes
I have Viz 2006 and Vray free. I am setting up an external scene, and have a large library of RPC trees cars etc.. Problem is, they will not render at all. They are all excluded by default from any advanced lighting calcs, and have there self illumination turned on. But they will not render out on the image.!! I am really stuck, as I don't have any other trees etc.. and this could mean going back to scanline..!!!! Can anybody help out here.. Cheers Andy
Ismael
Check: http://www.archvision.com/KnownIssues.cfm There is a known issue; not with Vray..., but your Viz version that states: """""Pertains to Product: 3D Studio MAX / Autodesk VIZ RPC Version Effected: 3.8.1 Description: If any texture map is missing from the scene RPCs will not render. Status: Solution is Currently in Development Resolution: Replace the missing texture maps or remove the materials that have missing textures and the RPC objects will render."""" alfienoakes
Hmm.. I did see that note, but as I set up all my materials, as far as I know, there are no missing maps etc.. But, I thought I would do a little test. I changed everything in the scene to a blank base material, no maps etc, and rendered.. It worked, the RPC's showed up no problem. So I started to add in the materials, to see which one caused the problem.. Added them all in one by one and rendered.. It does it with any of them and all of them.! But I am pretty damn sure that there are no missing maps. Also, if I render the image with on base material.. the RPC shows. If I then add a texture mapped material, it doesn't..If I then change the material back to a base material.. It STILL doesn't show.. I have to delete the RPC and re-insert it..!!! I have just updated to the 3.11 version of RPC and no difference.. I am vey stuck..! Andy

alfienoakes
Hey Tim.. Check this out.. I posted the problem direct with Archvision, thinking I may be lucky to get a resonse in the next week or so..! Anyway, within 10 minutes a guy emailed me back saying could I post the drawing etc.. So I posted the drawing and all the textures etc.. and went back to work. Only 5 minutes later, our sec' then phones through with a call from a guy "who sounds very american.. " Archvision have rung me up, and I'm discussing the problem on the phone with a very helpful guy called Jon..!! Got in to work this moring, and he has found what the problem appears to be, and we are off and running..!! Now thats what I'm talkin' bout!! That is technical support!! Oh yes.. the problem. Well this did confuse Jon at Archvision as well, but it was the max depth setting in the raytracer rollout, on the render panel. Changed it from 3 to 5, and it all worked?? He wasn't really sure why, but it did.. Cheers guys Andy
