Max8 File Link Manager

Where did the DWG originate from? Plain autocad, adt, or revit? There is a known issue with revit 8.x based dwg files and failure to maintain a material type change during reload. Work around is to save out Matlib, reload, and update all scene materials from saved matlib.

If that's not it, then try checking the two boxes in the image below from the FLM settings.

The model was originally made in Microstation V8, exported as 2004 DWG.

As to the settings, it doesn't matter what they are set to (on or off or any combination thereof) I still loose my material assignments.

Tried the Matlib- no luck, when I update from the library it says there are no materials in the scene

TIA

not giving any solutions here, but will let you know you're not alone. I've had a few intermitant problems reloading dwg's in filelink in max8 that were originally established in max7. It will come up and say some layers could not be loaded, loads the rest of the way with missing layers and dropped materials.

Here's the kicker though, I had problems reloading some projects gone on to others, went back to the original and it was fine.

Max8 had also been giving me some problems with xref for scenes and objects causing 8 to crash.

I'm hoping this is just a a few leftover bugs from a new release that quickly receive a patch release, and not a sign of whats to come with MAX under the guidance of Autodesk

I am also having problems reloading and not all objects and layers come through. Only way around that is to reload twice.

A well looks as though I am going to stick with 7 until a patch is released. In the meanwhile I shall keep on testing. So far I have been through very combination of settings, checked that the filelink config file was updating and even tried looking at the DLU files (eventhough I have no idea what is going on inside).

I stopped using Xref's a long time ago, as I found that managing the materials and tweeks thereof far too clumsy. Letaglone the genral flakyness of Xref's

Thanks all the same

I have been working with AME with this issue and they have been able to replicate the bug. A bug has been logger and they are in the process of working out a fix, no news as to when this will be available.

Many thanks to AME for working this through.

This sounds like an old bug to me. I mean, I have the same problem with max7. Everytime I try to import a dwg file, I have to try all 3 different ways (Import as ACAD Drawing, as DWG Legacy and FLM). Normally, only one works, and not always the same one. Thought this would be fixed by now.

For me Max7 FLM is rock solid. I have used and abused it with inly a few qlitches which were easily overcome.

With V8 it is so unpredictable that I can't use it at all.

Apparantly AME was already working on a fix but havn't said when it will be released.
