that does look familiar....was that the model they were using at CMU?

Not sure. I think this was a model that was suppose to be updated as buildings were being built. I've had this modeling for over 5 years, and there's probably a newer version out there somewhere.

Even though that is a DWG, that is a pretty impressive model of Pittsburgh.

Any other good resources for city models?... preferably free ones cuz I am just screwing around with them and not using them for any particular projects. Just cool to see an entire city in your screen that you can zoom in and fly through.

A google search shows a few building models here and there, but not entire cities.

One of my favorites:

(Warning: I tried to assemble the whole thing, and failed miserably - too many polys - maybe if you have a QuadroFX 3000+...)

AJLYNN-Looks fairly complete actually.. more than I figured you would be able to get before it got un-godly slow.

Did you work in AutoCAD or MAX? Neither of them being speed demons, I figure I might as well try the MAX files instead of the DWG files cuz I could get better renderings and do some fly-thrus.

Image looks really good though

That was Max, Maxtreme, a 64MB Quadro4 and Maxwell, with the parts across the harbor in the distance modeled in ACAD. Maxwell didn't end up being very practical so I went to VRay but the base was in parts that overlapped, which makes VRay's GI get blotchy, so I ended up doing a lot of cutting.
