how to improve this scene further?

i usually get stuck in this part of the process...I know that i should have more/better furniture further back but i couldnt find any fitting "free" models and i am usually very bad when it comes to "my own" design.

also, how do you guys get rid of the noise that Fprime gives.

i had to render this image at 5000*4000 something pixels, and blur in psp and then resize it down about 3 times the orignal size to remove the noise. (I still suck with psp, but now i have 10(!)books about psp to read and learn from lol)

any help will be appreaciated. thanks.

edit: the lamp is from E-interior, teapot, blender and cup are objects that came with LW, and the woman is a free sample from...eh..somewhere, i forgot.

the rest is made by me.

Hi Petri. It is a good start. Try to fiqure out how you want the image to look or what you are trying to convey as your main idea. Here is what I have noticed.

First the texturing neeeds improvement. The map on the handrail is not correct. Turn the grain 90 deg and scale it down.

Second there is a lack of GI in the scene. You need some kind of fill light. The light on the stove will be brighter than shown here. I would look at how the second level can be illuminated.

Third, the person is killing it for me... how tall is she? Concentrated on the scene without entourage then put them in later. Add more reflection to the table so the cup has a blurred reflection. The cup itself needs some kind of relfection too. It is a ceramic cup, right?

And lastly, look at websites for cabinet layouts. One of the biggest differences in one rendering verses another is the amount of "real-world" detail. I really feel that a good scene starts there.

Good luck and keep posting.

Yep it needs way more light.

Put some area lights in (under the floor especially) instead of relying on light bounces for ambience. It's the additional computation for the bounces that cause the grain. If you stick to one bounce and add ambient light manually, the grain clears in no time. Two bounces is pushing it and three takes forever.

And I'd just get rid of the woman. Your chances of matching her into the image are very slim. People in interiors have never worked for me.

thanks guys, i'll skip the "evening" scenario and try a day scenario instead...

you were both right about the woman, it IS better without her...

continue with the c&c!1 :)

Much better. The shadows are much too strong on the table. Change the shadow of your fill light to an area shadow (if LW has it). I think this comment goes for the whole kitchen. The shadows made from the handles on the cabinets should not be that strong. Change all fill light shadows to area shadows. There is a green hue to the kitchen area yet I do not see the light that was there before. Unfortunately I can barely tell that the table has blurred reflections because of the grain. The glass looks good on the handrail.

Keep going.
