3dsmax8 / Backburner3 "max.task" failure

Hello, group.

I performed a forum search, but couldn't find anything regarding the following Backburner3 problem I'm having.

When submitting a Network rendering assignment, Backburner3 Server returns the following error:

"Unable to open C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsmax8\max.task: The specified procedure could not be found. (0x7f)."

The Network render Manager will not submit a 3dsmax8 job assignment back to my PC because it fails to recognize my system as a valid 3dsmax8 render node, and doesn't think my PC has the default 3dsmax8 scanline render plugin installed. Our Manager and all render nodes have 3dsmax 7, 7.5, and 8.0 installed, and are running Backburner3.

This is not a problem with any of our other 3dsmax8 workstations, and besides this render plugin failure, all network rendering functionality remains intact.

Repeated Uninstall/Re-installs and Registry hacks have not solved the problem. Our V.A.R. ("Value" Added Reseller) has been contacted, and presumably they have forwarded the problem to Autodesk, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has encountered this problem and found a solution.

I had some problems with network rendering after I installed max 8. I also had max 7 installed, so I ended up uninstalling 7 and 8 then reinstall 8, I don't know if it makes sense that it worked, but it seems to have worked. Haven't had any problems since.

I'll just chime in here and say that I too am experiencing this "Exact" same error on one of my render nodes. It flat out refuses to render anything through the backburner even though the other dozen pc's on the farm are ok.

Let me ask you something else though, have you ever experienced any kind of maxscript related errors on the offending PC, the kindof error that spits out about 20 or so error messages? The render node which I am experiencing problems with has the maxscript error message also, an error which occured immediatly after a fresh installation of MAX 8.

I'll try yet another reinstall and see what happens.
