Vray cars ?

Hey everyone,

 

Could somebody refresh my memory on this one... I know you can buy some good 3d cars that come with Vray materials already applied to them, but I can't remember what those are. I'm thinking I'd rather buy those than try to convert all the glossy & glassy materials myself.

Actually, I'm not too impressed because I expected them to all be Vray materials but most of them are still standard mats. Unless the sample is not as good as the rest of the actual models. But the paint material basically has no reflectivity to it, so I'll have to replace the material anyways. I think the only ones that are actually vray mats are the glass and chrome.

 

If anybody has had better or different results, please feel free to correct me.

you can get either the standar mats version, or the vray mats version...or im not sure if they include both...also in max and 3ds....

 

but beware, because I dont think it supports earlier versions of vray

Some of the collection offers different materials. Some even include Brazil and vray. If im not mistaken its a cg car collection.

might be worth a try, pretty sure they sell individual cars, some but not all are vray materials, look quite good from what i remember too.!

I dl the sugar 3d car. That seems pretty poorly represented. The materials are really bad and it has no vray mats as Tim pointed out (yes it was the vray car). No uvw maps for the materials and the car I saw had 1 mulit/sub applied but the material was missing sub materials. The material in the browser had 4 sub-materials the one called "blackness" was the car paint, the one called "car paint" was trim I think and of the 4 mats in the material browser the glass was not one of them. That was object id 7 and the mat only went to 4. It was modeled really well and I only played with the high poly version.

Sugar3D cars are great, I used them all the time, but they're not for "beginners" per say... They do require minor tweaking, but once you save your "tweaked" file, it works awesome. The naming of materials is odd, but they do have reflections, and it's easy to change colors.

The Velocity cars collections from aXYZ design are really good, have vray mats and are about 100USD for 10 cars I think. The latest issue of 3D World mag, which came through my door today, has the Velocity2 collection free on the cover disc. Bargain!

Note that the initial thread is 4 years old. Some of the collections may have changed by now...

I would recommend the Dosch collection to anyone, though I did spend a good deal of time reworking the materials for Mental ray.
