Select objects by Material?

Is it possible to select objects in your scene based on their Material assingment? I'd love to be able to go into the Material Browser, select a material and check a box somewhere that says "Find all objects that this material is applied to".

Select the material in the Material Editor.

Go to Utilities in the material editor's menu.

Choose Select Objects by Material.

or you could just bring up the material editor, select the material, then click the select by material button on the right. this pops up the select objects window, and those objects with the selected material applied will be highlighted. hope that helped.

I would have been happy going to the utility panel for that feature, but I'll be darned that I actually missed an icon in the material browser that did this. Sweet!

I love how that extremely useful command is not by all the other 'Select By' tools. Hell they could have put it right next to 'Select By Color' in the Edit menu where it belongs.

 

That would have made too much sense I guess.
