Yeah, I did something similar using LightWave and Sketchup. It was fun and easy to get the models into Google Earth. Only took about 1/2 hour start to finish. Unfortunately, bitmap textures aren't supported yet, so you are stuck with using only colors (diffuse slot in MAX, if I remember).

yeah, i bought this plugin yesterday. Pretty cool, straight forward, cheap $29.

We use Google Earth all the time for Planning, Site Development etc.

We make short video's with the "movie maker" plugin and use them in Power Point presentations.

Do you mind sharing how you used Lightwave and Sketchup to do that?

It's really easy. I took a model of a building I'd been working on, and simplified it down to roughly 10% of the original polygons (for ease of use and speed). I then imported the model into Sketchup ("import--> 3D model"). I followed the instructions in the PDF link below for acquiring the images and markers I needed from GoogleEarth. The only real difficulty (if I remember correctly) was that the model imported in rotated 180 degrees, and I had to rotate it back. Being new to SketchUp, this was harder than anything else for me. Trust me, everything else in the process was easy and fun. If I spent more time on it, I'm sure it could look much nicer. I've attached the KMZ file for you to see.
