gus_webb
Hi everybody- I recently saw an animation produced by Arup (I believe) showing acoustic predictions within a theater...looked like about a million superballs projected from a point, bouncing around the room and showing sound distribution. Supercool, but I think the particular software they use is proprietary and not available to the general public. Does anyone out there know if there are any decent acoustic modelers capable of doing something similar? I've searched old posts as well as the web, but haven't come up with anything so far. Thanks! Hector
Hello: I think that Ecotect does something similar to what you want altough not as sofisticated as the arup software, I suppose. Check it out at http://www.squ1.com The web address above is correct, right now the page seems not to be available. They are about to release a new version and I think they are making big changes to the web site. This software does a sereis of other interesting things like solar and thermal analysis. It is not really aimed at visualization. However it is a design tool aimed at architects and hence has a good graphical interface and it is easy to learn. It produce also nice skethy graphics. They have a demo you can try.
Videha
hi a few years ago i worked with acoustic modelers the best i think was Bose. you can even hear the results and it was within 5 % of the predicted data. there was one very close to the bose and is used by most sound and acustic designers its caled EASE but costs http://www.jblpro.com/ease/ if you just want to play with it JBL has a free software CADP2 nice little software and quite capable. gus_webb
Thanks for the help! I couldn't find CadP2...looks like its not available for download anymore on the jbl site you referenced, so I'll have to do a little more digging. But a little searching for it makes me think I'm going to need to get a lot smarter before I dive into something like that. I'm a little surprised, though, that it isn't considered more often. How hard would it be to integrate into something like VIZ? It's essentially another command line- include a sound absorbance factor in the material properties, and convince a light that it's actually a speaker, and you're doing sound modeling, right? I don't know; that might be too simplistic...
jaclyn_t
so here i am, wondering the same thing...there HAS to be a way to calculate this in Max. had you ever found a solution? i am calculating sound travel manually, and it could be quite time consuming! please let me know if you have any answers!
