Hi there, this is my first post. Im new to Autodesk viz, I used to work with Acad/ accurender.

After a couple of weeks of trying to figure out how the logaritmic exposure works I finally made some acceptable renders, anyway I was heading towards the "easy" part wich was adding some trees and people from jpg or tiff files but I just cant find how you do this in Viz, it should be really easy I guess but I dont know how.

- Do this kind of mappings work like any other material? if so how can I mask them?

- My other question is : how can i adjust the image I set as a background? I have seen some options in Viewport background like match viewport or match bitmap but how can I make the background a little bit to the left or right, you know like putting the background image right where i want

Thanks

You need to make 2 maps for people and trees. One is a diffuse map and the other is an oppacity map. The diffuse map is an image of the item (person tree, etc) against a black background. The oppacity map has a black background and a white filled area where your tree or person is. Viz and Max see black as transparent and white as opaque. In the material browser grab a new material. Under the maps is a list of map types. The first slot is the diffuse slot. Drop the diffuse map into that slot as the image. Down 2 or 3 slots is the oppacity map. Drop the oppacity map you made (black and white) into this slot.

Now drag and drop the material on to the vertical plane that you have made.

Now when the light hit it you will see the image but no background. The shadows will come from the oppacity map.
