arkiedmund
I read somewhere that if you need to make a quick yet acceptable render, you can use MR dirtmap, together with your scanline renders and composite the whole thing in adobe photoshop. I once found a tutorial in here. yet I can't seem to find it now. Can anyone here give me a guide on how this Ditrmap technique works? thanks to all...... Brian Cassil
I don't know about the "dirtmap" tutorial you're referring to. But what you are actually looking for is info on the "ambient occlusion" shader.

the.3dsmax.blogger
a bit off topic .. we all know what ambient occlusion / dirtmap is and its relevance in good renders ... I would like to know any tehcnique on how we can generate an render / material effect that creates actual DIRT at edges nooks & cranies of our models ( very random effect ) .. pls comment ... ps: martin: everflow.com was a very cool link .. thanks for the same
Hao La
the.3dsmax.blogger : you can create a map with dirtmap on it by Photoshop and then apply to you model. Using real picture and clone tool to copy the dirt spots to your map.
the.3dsmax.blogger
hao la: true .. that is one way .. the old fashioned way .. i must say !!! but is it possible to get a procedural or a scripted way of getting the same effect done .. suggestion: can we use the ambient occlusion effect to identify where the material could be more dirty than the other areas and then automatically align some texture map to it. maybe i had heard of a plugin that achieved something like this ( though not using ambient occlusion ) called as the DIRT REYES. but that was quite some time back. I am sure technology changes / techiques improve .. if there are any other solutions , that somebody could share .. nothing like it !!!!!!
