Hey guys,

I'm making a model of the classic Aalvar Alto Chair 41 'paimio'.I know it's no 'architecture', but part of it!

But created by an architect of course - humn stupid joke -.

Anyway :

I want to make a collection of 3d-furniture to use in our visualisations.

And I'll try to sell them on turbosquid. Does anyone already have any experience with this ?

I've found several 3d-models (on turbosquid) of the same chair. But I find the quality (looking at

the pictures) not very convincing; so wanna give it a go myslelp.

I hope to sell my model in 3ds en IWO (lightwave).

But to do so, I want my first commercial model to be Good. No crap, I suppose.

Please feel free to c&c the renderings.

JUST for info:

Specs chair: Manyfactured by Huonekalu-ja, Finland as 'model 41' from 1932.

Materials

- Bent laminated berch and solid berch frame, laquered

- Seat in bent plywood stained and laquered

- Slotted screws

Height:

- 67 cm or 26 1/3 in

Width:

Seat height:

euhm;

molok : I understand your point. I'm softening the corners by adding more vertices. And I'm planning to use the unify-poly's thingy. But while I'm modelling i try to have a certain scale of mapping in mind. I make the UV-map fit exactly a number of times in the box (which I started with). This not only helps to have a certain idea of the scale of the mapping (UV-doesn't show on screen in lightwave (or maybe it does but never found it ;) ). This also helps me make the map tileable. (while you know on which part of the bitmap your working in).

Hi Pete

Thx for the compliment !!!

yip. The church is going to be a live -project I figure. No the exterior is done. I'm 'now' starting on the interior. (read :for the last months). I have to have the church finished in the beginning of next year. Due-date not yet decided. Luckely ! There are so many ours in that model. Aargh

I'm a little afraid of updating the newtek-post. (for other visitors :

http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread.php?p=204538#post204538 ) It's been more then a year since I updated the thread.

While much of the work doesn't really show. Putting the model together takes at least 2 days. Haven't dared it the last months.

Another breaking news on the church thing, is that I found, after searching for a loung time someone, to help me finish the model. The problem there was he had to live in Gent (while you have to control everyting you model), and of course he has to have some experience at a reasonable cost (same contradiction ever - you know). The other candidates ran away after opening the base model, and have not come back. snif ! But it'll come to gather. At least it must!

funny...last time you posted on that thread was a year ago??..i just found it YESTERDAY!! lol

im sure you will get help from people, even on a volunteer basis, if you would ask for it.

i've seen at cgtalk.com that there are a number of "online projects", for example..some guys are modelling "the minas tirith" from the lord of the ring movies...imagine how long that would take would you do it all alone.

i had thoughts about helping them to build it, as practise mostly...but i dont really have any free time to take it seriously, atleast when it is not paid work ;)

anyways, you could see if there is any help to get from there, even if people using other programs would help you, you still would save time even if you had to clean the models to fit lightwave, instead of building it all self.

i would love to see how far you progressed during all this time :)

OF TOPIC :

cool..., you found that one yesterday, I figured Newtek 'd have deleted those old threads by now. ;)

About the volunteer part, yip you're probably right. But have so ethical problems about volunteer work: I started out working as an architect (stagair - architect) gaining less than someone who's unemployed. I worked for a year in Paris and every month I had to use my parents savings to survive! I find that really disgusting. So I came to the point: that one should get paid (if someone else gets anyway).

- Another thing which keeps me 'goubling' is that I'd become something like a project manager... hum meaning that you'd have to give feedback, etc... you kind of get the idea, there's a big difference between managing and ... whatever it is that I do. ;)

I've seen the thread on cgtalk, didn't know that they where doing that now. I kind of left cgtalk when they went towards 'paying-membership'.

But it seems to work ! What they are doing is really incredible !!!!!!

Maybe I'll ask somehelp, but I'm gonna try collaborating with our new found modeler. He's just starting tommorrow gotta give him some credit.

here are some links : (there quite old though-and really bad- mapped)

Here are some updates, I kind of worked on softening the edges. I'm not quite sure with the texture though. It blends well together, but... it can get better I think...

I'v changed the light from an area light to a point light, this gives to hard shadows, but renders 5 time faster.
