voltaire_ira
ok, i will be building a new workstation for the new office. it will be an amd based dual core system on a dual mother board system. here are the specs... OPTERON 275 dual core ( 2 pcs) 2 pcs asus K8N-DL delux ECC corsair 2gb dual channel geforce 7800gtx using ddr3, 256bit, 256 mb 2 pcs SATA 2 200gb seagate on raid 0 config we're looking for a wide screen lcd monitor that is available here, if there isnt, a dual lcd 19" monitor probably will be ordered. anyways, the specs above have been approved and will be ordered asap. i would like to know if the specs above will be fast and reliable enough for heavy 3d architectural work. anvaraziz
geforce 7800gtx using ddr3, 256bit, 256 mb ? if ur going to do animations then u should go for a workstation graphic card , not one for playing games ... take a look on Nvidia Quadro FX series or ATI FireGL series,,,
mbr
Not sure why you'd it'd matter which graphic card you had if you were doing animations.... Look at Dell's 24" LCD or 20", both widescreens. Both are excellent and if you keep an eye on the coupons (http://www.techbargains.com), you should be able to get them for about $800 and $400, respectively. David Knourek
As I mentioned in a previous post, the Quadros are nice but in my opinion the "gaming" cards can be adaquate for most users. I bought a quadro years ago for an insaine amount of money and although I got good viewport frame rates it just didnt justify the extra money just to get a little better viewport performance. Since then Ive been running the high end gaming cards and with the savings Ive been able to upgrade to faster cpu's or more ram or storage space which to me is more important. BTW Im currently running an nvidia 7800GTX and love it. Just my $0.02 -dave
jonel
have you tried maxtreme drivers with that quadro?
voltaire_ira
my current workstation is running a nvidia 6600 and kicks 1,000,000 polies with ease. I ran the same scene using a quadro 1400 but the viewport frame rate was killing me...the 6600 was even faster than the quadro 1400.
Brian Cassil
With that much horse power, I'd seriously consider 4 gigs of ram. I think you will find situations where you are running out in large scenes, especially when rendering gi.
