ShaunDon
Howdy all. I've got a huge site for a hospital expansion that I need to fill with parked cars. I plan to use Dosch 3D cars for the job, but the difficulty comes in placing them all... the site is contoured and in some areas slopes rather dramatically. Does anyone know a way to align a model to the surface of the pavement and rotate it so all four tires are grounded? I assume this is a long shot, but considering the time it would save I just had to ask. Thanks! Shaun
Brian Cassil
Not a long shot at all. The glue script makes this a complete snap! Check it out at itoosoft here: http://www.itoosoft.com/english/menu.php?id=glue works for splines too.
ShaunDon
What what WHAT? I thought Glue only worked for splines! I'll give that a shot!
ShaunDon
So I gave it a try, but it seems to be aligning my pivot point or center of the object to the face. I also need something that will rotate it perpendicular to the face normal at the same time. I really should try learning maxscripting sometime... Thanks again. Brian Cassil
Maybe I don't quite understand what your trying to do, but from the sounds of it, I would think that checking the "follow normal surface" checkbox would do the trick.
ShaunDon
Sorry Brian, you're right of course. I think I'd been staring at the computer screen for too long last night. Thanks for the help, it works great! Shaun
Chris Johnson
If you ever want something that is interactive, I suggest Bobo's align tool. It interactively aligns a selected object over a surface.
