Hi:

They are about to release an update to V5.5. The closure of the website is because they are aupdating also the website and the on line registration system. They are actually delayed, the release was suposed to be at the end of october.

There is no other choice but to wait, they are a small company.

The software can be used to do solar studies, thermal studies, daylighting studies, acoustics etc... It's a design tool rather than visualization and it is oriented to architects rather than engineers. It is very visual. I'm currently using it for solar studies. You can import 3d data or model in the software.

I my opinion this softwares is really good if your are into sustainable design. The website itself has really good information regarding sustainable design.

You can download a demo before buying to try it out.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Sustainabale design is coming more to the front, in our practice, and it will be part of our design reports from now on.

Why pay a consultant when we can do it in house.

Do you have any idea of the price of the software, and do you get radiance with it?

Uhmm I think it is about 500 pounds a seat.

You will certainly like the software. It works on PCs only unfortunately for me, cause I work on Macs. So I have "this windows laptop" with the sole purpose of running it.

Radiance as far as I understand is free and can be downloaded from its own website. What this guys have is a plug-in to take ecotect models directly into radiance a make things easier.

Hi Phillip,

We've just began using ecotect in UCD. Its really good. Like you said it removes the need for a consultant and with the regulations tightening up on building energy efficiency this will save a fortune for many firms/clients. Students with no experience with modelling found it a steep learning curve but personally i'd no problem and after a while everyone found it easy enough to use.

Good luck,

Brendan
