Help with MR. Unable to set 'Generate Global Illumination'

Hi...

I'm fairly new to MR. Decided to give it a chance recently.

Been having this annoying problem lately:

I know objects have to have GENERATE GLOBAL ILLUMINATION active for it to bounce photons into other geometries.

When I start a new scene I have no problem... 3 of the 4 options are active by default (Receive Caustics, Generate Global Illumination, Receive Global Illumination) and I can switch them off and back on with no problem.

But when I open another scene, say for example, a car my friend was making and I wanna render, I can't activate 'Generate Global Illumination'. I ENABLE it and press OK just to watch it disabled once I go into the object properties again... Needless to say my renderings look like **** with most of the objects left out of GI.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
