Geoff
WIP radial layer vertical timber stair My latest personal project Sequel to my DNA stair I suppose Stair designed and modelled by me. Location loosely based on zaha hadid's firestation I have been waiting for the sky thingy in vray 1.5 to render this one It's lacking in something but can't seem to find what. Tried furniture in it but seemed overcrowded Comments and critism welcome Geoff
Brian Cassil
Cool design and render. Textures are amazing! My only crit would be on the composition. In the first image my eye is drawn to the light corner rather than the stairs. Maybe adding some artificial light or a sky light to illuminate the stairs would help with that. The second image just looks to dim.
mohamedberry
great work indeed... the only thing that pops up is: wooden stair in a fire station ??
archytextural
GREAT IMAGE! I really like the design of the stair. The only thing I would change would be some reflections on the glass. the glass on the stair just seems lifeless. maybe an HDRI or something, but get something happening on that glass. Geoff
@Brian - I'll brighten up the images. You are right the 2nd one is way to dim! Texturing and lighting always used to be my weal points. Vray has improved my lighting, and texturing was something I was trying to improve on. thank you. @wad - I might try a tighter shot ie more stair. The stair is sort of aimed at domestic situations, but this is more of a public looking space. I work for a staircase manufacturer as a draughtsman/3d guy. I love designing stuff too! @mohamedberry - its based on a fire station building. I think originally this space was a washroom! @archytextural - I do have an hdri in there but it's only a sky one! I'll try the good 'ol kitchen one! Thanks for all the compliments chaps
IC
Looks good Geoff. How are the upper treads supported? The radial timber only seems to do the lower area. I think the render lacks some reflection on the glass. You just expect it on curved glass regardless of how dim the lighting is.
Geoff
Hello Iain, I assume you mean the landing? It's cantilevered off the floor. It also has a 'fan' of beech ply supports which you can't see. Doh! looks pretty though! I will be doing a view from the 'otherside', a reverse shot of the first one at some point. The glass does have reflections in it. I can see them better in the full res images admitidly Geoff
Tim Saunders
seriously, really nice design. and materials have for sure turned into a strength. i especially love the venier wood steps, how you can see the layers on the edges. nice touch. sgill
Cool design and definitely unique. Although I would hate to be the contractor building that stair case

Geoff
I'm glad you all like the design. It's a bit unusual so I wasn't sure about developing this design At last, an update! not sure about the background yet. Will try an urban setting when I've found a suitable piccy (didn't use hdri as I don't have any decent ones!). Stuck furniture behind the camera to give the glass something to reflect. What do you think then? Geoff
