Juan Altieri
i don't know, but amazing stuff.... good link, thanks
ShaunDon
Judging by the caliber of studio that likely worked on this, if they used max I'm almost certain it was rendered with Brazil. Maybe VRay, but highly doubtful. Certainly not Mental Ray, and Maxwell doesn't exist yet. Someone posted this way back in the Off Topic section. Nice to see it again! Allen
That's a Lightwave rendering.
BrianKitts
I would say its up in the air in my opinion, after seeing the Nine Inch Nails music video for the song "Only"..... all animated done in vray, I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility..... *Pete*
yup, it's made with Lightwave. i have even seen copies of the same scene, one with a old Citroen car, other with an "english breakfast". just wish i had the links to them.....really funny
ShaunDon
It certainly could be done with VRay... I wouldn't put down my favorite render engine! But my understanding is that most broadcast studios use Brazil since it's more robust. I don't know anything about Lightwave myself -- is that just a guess Allen, or do you have insider info? Just to be clear, I think the whole "what software did they use" line of questioning is kinda moot. If you have the skill to produce this quality of work, you could do it with any number of applications. One of the things that irks me about the new vizmasters site is that it used to be a simple gallery showcasing incredible artists. Now there's so much tied-in advertising screaming "buy me and your stuff will look just as good" that it turns my stomach. Shaun
Guest nazcaLine
lightwave...wow... i remember i tried to learn lightwave some time ago, everything was fine 'til i discovered the vertical axis wasn't z, but y (like bryce). this little issue pissed me off in such a way that i gave up instantly, hahahaha.... anyway, like shaun said,a good work can be done in any software... ShaunDon
Hehe, I almost wrote Maya off for the same reason (Y-up rather than Z-up) -- but they let you toggle between. Hell, max won't even let you do that! Shaun
Allen
I don't know anything about Lightwave myself -- is that just a guess Allen, or do you have insider info? Shaun Yep, I'm sure. It's on the LW demo disk that I just received from NewTek. Pretty sweet stuff. You're right about software...seems as though so many studios use 4 different packages for the same shot now days...it's sometimes hard to say difinitively that THIS package was used completely for THIS shot... I think that's good - as different packages have different strengths though...and different artists have different work styles. Vive le difference! Christopher Nichols
Lightwave is super oldschool man... still a solid product. Lightwave roots go back to the Amiga. Still heavily used in lots of commerical shops.

IC
I can understand people automatically making the assumption that Max was used when it's arch viz but not for something like this. It could have been done with any software as has been pointed out but this is one area of CG animation where Max isn't always the first choice.
