Weird bezier handles in max

Hi would be great if anyone can help. Not urgent but this has been bugging me for some time

My process is to import stripped OS drawings from auto cad into max, these i sometimes extrude to make pavements etc. Anyway the thing that always grates on me is that i sometimes get these funny beziers with crosses as handles that are a pain to work with.

The only way ive really dealt with these in the past is to delete and refine the spline to get the square handles back.

Any explanation or easy method to change these would be great!

Many thanks!

Hi, that's easy you should select the segment between or near these vertex, then RMB click and in the left-upper popup menu, should find "Linear" "Curve". So if your segment is linear his vertex will get non afectable green-crossed handles. Just make your segment "Curve" ;)

You also can avoid this while importing yours dwg files, just see the help or try to play with Autosmooth parameter in importin dialog.

  • 2 weeks later...

beziers did my head in but then I sorted it by accident.

Basically the way they operate is like this. When you have the bezier, the handles for it only move in the direction of the gizmo you select just before the operation.

so to make sense of that, if you want to move the handles freely in any direction, first click the yellow highlighted box in the gizmo, then select the handles and you'll find they move everywhere. if you only want to move the handle in one axis, like wise, select one of the 'pointers' of the gizmo, say the x axis, then, the bezier handle will lock to that and move in that direction.

Hope i explained that properly, and hope it helps.
