Tim Danaher
After my first posting: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/showthread.php?p=93592#post93592 I decided to have another crack at it, in light of the new information from the Architectural Record article. This model is far more accurate, and shows most of the structural elements -- how the thing 'hangs together'. First off, the 'Classic' view: Followed by one showing more of the structure: A Classic Interior shot: And a Balcony View -- that structural element really does go through the baluster assembly like that: Must do some Cheetah renders before the hols. Like I said in my previous post, I'm available for SketchUp work if anyone has any spare capacity...
Mat@MDI-Digital
looks realy cool...has a nice technical illustration feel to it question, you dont by chance have a brother called Simon?
Kohi
I've been through your first posting, which looked very good but a few things didn't add up in the end. I'm going to look at both of them side by side and see the difference. This one seems more solid, for a lack of a better description. You've looked into detail a lot more here and it's apparent. I find curves to be a pain, something I'll have to practice more. Can't help but wonder how you handled the curved glass and the steel beams, which seem to curve slightly. Thanks for sharing; it’s a real kick in the backside for lazy people like me.
Tim Danaher
Kohi -- Thanks for the comments: The first one was 'eyeballed' from three photos, this one, I had the luxury of some schematics and pics dug up from a 1988 Architectural record. see them here: http://www.pushpullbar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1427&page=6&pp=10 So, there's still a bit of work to be done... As for curved glass -- draw a segment, push-pull it, delete the ends and underside -- a curved plane! Also, you can download the original model from the above thread. Kohi
Thanks for the tip Tim, I'll try that out on the next project. I've also downloaded the skp file, very grateful to you for sharing it. -k
borneo
Is it really modelled with sketchup? it looks really nice. I began a week ago with some tutos but didn´t imagine such a wonder could be possible.
arquiteck09
Sketchup can really make this model easy ? or not. I mean i model in 3ds Max but sometimes the model it´s to hard and i can´t model it to easy and it took to much time to finish, i don´t make this kind of models but if it is faster i can give it a try. Is there any tutos online or it came with tutos ? Sketchup of course.
borneo
There are some good videotutos in the sketchup site . There is the possibility of learning online too. But i had not seen such a good quality as Tim´s work. I like a lot that accuracy and illustration touch too. ¿Can you tell us something more about the process?
