morten77
First, I dont have much CAD experience. I am a noob at just this ...so I hope I dont step on any toes with my post. Second, Im a mac user, and I know that limits the posibilities. I could consider buying a PC if the right software is out there. Im looking for the best software for converting a 2D floor plan, into a 3D space ...with furniture and the lot. I know Im looking for a quick way to do this. The software graphics need to be smooth. Kinda Sims ...if you know what I mean. Her is an example of what Im looking for http://www.actiondesigner.com/interior.jpg What software could have been used here? If there are other apps that has a easy learing curve, I will also consider this. I dont know what Archicad can do, given the example I provided? I know that some apps inculdes different furniture and sorts. ...maybe someone can help me. I will be forever greatfull

IC
First off, welcome to the forum Morten. And don't worry-nobody minds newbie questions. We all asked them. That kind of model/render can be achieved with ANY 3D software and a great deal of 2D CAD programs. You mentioned Archicad-is that the kind of thing you're looking for? It'll do the job but you should also consider a Mac suitable 3D app. I use LightWave and it'll let you do that with ease. Plus a million other things. It's very intuitive too. chuck
You're not stepping on anyone's toes...so don't apologize for that. There are a lot of great people on this site that enjoy helping people that are just starting out. Anyway, I'd take a look at sketchup first, since it sounds like you don't have a lot of 3D experience. It doesn't have advanced lighting, but you can turn on the shadows and add textures. You can turn off the black lines too, getting you close to the Sims look. It's probably the easiest 3D package to learn out there, and it's a lot of fun to use...most of the time. It comes with a component library that includes just about all you'll need to get started...doors, windows, furniture, etc... You can download the free 8 hour demo at http://www.sketchup.com It's MAC friendly too, Chuck
morten77
Envisioneer is what I use. http://www.cadsoft.com I checked it out. Looks great, but they dont have a mac version of this. If its worth to invest in a PC to get this program ...i dont know. Thank you so much for your tip, stixwilson First off, welcome to the forum Morten. And don't worry-nobody minds newbie questions. We all asked them. You're not stepping on anyone's toes...so don't apologize for that. There are a lot of great people on this site that enjoy helping people that are just starting out.Nice to feel welcome. Didn´t want to be disrespectful by trying to find easy ways to getting the job done. You guys are masters of your trade and have spent years perfecting. Just wanted to respect that:) You mentioned Archicad-is that the kind of thing you're looking for?I dont know. I tried it out. I also looked into VectorWorks 12. Dont know what that can do. I'd take a look at sketchup first, since it sounds like you don't have a lot of 3D experience. It doesn't have advanced lighting, but you can turn on the shadows and add textures. You can turn off the black lines too, getting you close to the Sims look. That app was som easy to use and with all the component library ...it looks like I can easily make a 3D floor plan. Dont know about the render capabilities though. I managed to import the file into Cinema 4D. Will I be able to improve the renders then? Or if I can find a way to import into lightwave? Have you heard about Microspot interiors by the way? Care to compare the two? That kind of model/render can be achieved with ANY 3D software and a great deal of 2D CAD programs So you mean that I can make a 3D floor plan in archicad and do the render in Maya, Lightwave or Cinema 4D? Or sketchup for that matter? but you should also consider a Mac suitable 3D app. I use LightWave and it'll let you do that with ease. Plus a million other things.Do you mean that I can consider using only lightwave for making the 3D floor plan? Or use if for the rendering? The problem I can think of with archicad or lightwave ...is how to make carpets, floor, beds? Sketchup comes with all that. Are there 3D components to be bought for this purpose. Does lightwave come with such components I would like to use your picture as an example. Hope I dont get in trouble. Its just amazing http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/IainCollins3d/images/4-picture3.gif?0.2615832282396158 DId you make the furniture yourself? This also is to chuck. Is it possible to make somethink like that in sketcup if I use Lightwave or Cinema4D for rendering? There. I guys must be exhausted by know:( I just need to get things straight here before I do an investment. I hope you got it all and can clearify for me. You guys are the best sincerly Morten
IC
I did that one in LightWave. Modelling and rendering. You can create models in 3D apps from imported 2d or 3d files or you can just model it from reference drawings (as I did in that case). Detailed furniture models can be downloaded freely from sites such as http://www.e-interiors.net
