frank1331
I am running two monitors off a single 128 vid card. If I am working on the main 21" monitor, how much is the second 18" monitor drawing away from the vid card. Would it be better to work off a single monitor? (Deep down I know the best thing would be to have 2 vid cards, but company isn't going to pay for that)
slawnick
I'm running two 21" monitors (both @ 1600x1200) off of a 6600gx with 128mb. I've had no problems at all.
JamesTaylor
never found it a problem to be honest. is your card struggling to handline the files your working?
frank1331
It seems to be at times yes. Notice it a lot when I magnify a material to get a better look at it. Also, alot with glass, using vray
JamesTaylor
when you magnify a material it often takes a few seconds or more to render the sample, obviously the larger you magnify the longer it will take. when you say you notice it alot with vray and glass, do you mean when your rendering an image? if so the graphics card isn't involved in the process so it won't make any difference
frank1331
JAT, I meant even in the material slot, weather I have the glass material magnified or not, it seems to take a long time when I have a glass material. I am using vray free, so using a vray glass material wont work. Trying to get the company to purchase a full version, but until then, I am struggleing with glass materials. Tommy L
Thats not to do with the vid card i dont think. Magnifying the material slots forces the software to do a realtime render of the material as if it is rendering a regular scene. Graphics card is not involved in rendering, so im assuming its not involved in the material slot rendering. You will definately want a second opinion on that though. In my experience, graphics cards are dis-proportionately admired in this forum. I have a really old radeon 9600 running 2 monitors for max/photoshop/autocad work and it performs geat. It just cant handle gaming. At work i have a quaddro fx 1100 and i barely notice the difference.
