jucaro
Radiosity... Standard GI... HDRI... Irradiance maps... Photon Mapping... Final Gathering... which if these GI methods suit best for what situation?
choochee
As I know it's all good for interior space renderings. Exterior has little to gain from the extra sampling of light they offer. Also good for good realism animation that has nothing to do with architecture. We use Global Illumination and Radiosity for interior images, exterior we use only ray-tracing. nisus
The tool won't do the job, the artist will... Even the most usefull tools can get useless in the hands of a fool... my advice: try, use and adore them... one or all... nisus
STRAT
you missed out fakiosity. and the answer to the question is similar to nisus's - it's the artist which creates the best image, using which ever method of GI he feels fits at the time. cgtiger
can i just add, HDRI is one of the best things since sliced bread, mainly useful for photomonataging CG items against the photo plate you sit it on. now this can be a glass on a table or a building in a forest, however you use it, its photorealistic results. enjoy it. hand illustrations
tcorbett
My preferences: Fakiosity for interior stills, Raytracing for exterior stills. Shadow mapping / fakiosity for exterior animations, Radiosity for interior animations. (It all comes down to frame render rates)
IC
I assume you meant to say radiosity for interior stills and fakeosity for animation? If so, I agree. Iain
STRAT
my personal preferences - full GI/radiosity for internal and external stills and animations. i only use fakiosity methods if the model contains 500000 faces or more (which is not that often)and i NEVER use fakiosity for internals.
