Pool Area

Hello all,

Still have alot of detail to add, but I like where its going, the only thing I don't like is the "illustrated" feeling it has, I was going for a more photo-real feeling, but I can't put my finger on what I'm missing to make it look that way...

hmmm....ok these are the things you need to change or improve...

1. your background. try to find somthin better, cool looking to match

the lighting.

2. i dont like your trees. these kinda plastic too me. ohh also those grasses.

3. ummm maybe your water material should be tweaked + adding caustics.

4. finally maybe you need more dirt on those walls and collums.

good luck.....

Good start - The doorway that is appearing as a 'black hole' is distracting - it pulls my eye away from the pool.

The background water is way too purple - I think it should be much more blue. Try a stock photo image search. The site that I found out about here on this forum is great.

The trellis is also not reading well. The lattice is not really visible and is not contributing to the design of the area. Looks a little to thin, but I'm also thinking of snow loads (here in NY) which would not be applicable in your site probably.

Finally, if I had a great view of the ocean and was building a new villa, I would have one of those dissapearing edge pools rather than putting the pool out in the middle of the patio.

1. Shadows are too sharp. Try to soft edges a bit.

2. Grass is too saturated - looks very artificial.

3. BG picture's hue does'nt fit to the render.

4. Like chutti said: trees are too plastic.

5. Water has zero transparency - I dont't see anything under the sheet.

The 2nd image is definetly looking better. I'd say one last thing could be that the tan concrete texture looks over used in the image. It's like almost everything is the same concrete. If you change that up a little I think you'll get even further away from that cg look.

I liked the materials in the first rendeing best. The first rendering creates the feeling of a nice bright sun drenched patio. Now it looks like its overcast or about to rain even though there are distinct shadows.

I would try the original material on the building and perhaps an even lighter material for the patio surface instead of the grey. With the new material there appears to be to much bump in the foreground column.

Also, in the first rendering the branches did not obscure the upper balusters. The shading on these looked nice and added to the design - now they have been pretty much lost.

I still think that the shadows from the trellis should be shown more. What if you changed the angle of the sun so that the shadows played out more on the patio and where angled toward the viewer. With a light material the shadows could really create a nice feeling. Perhaps they are too strong (too dark grey and sharp) now also.

Finally, I would also add in a foreground shadow to break up the large expanse of patio flooring.

In summary, your well on your way, but I think your missing the real 'punch' that this rendering and setting could provide. Attached is an early rendition of a project where I was attempting to create the 'sun drenched Mediterranean' look. Lots of contrast and bright fresh materials - in my opinion. :)

Good luck
