mtutaj
I remember a while back someone had a massing model of Pittsburg. Would anyone have anything for the City of Chicago? I have a 2d city map of the downtown area of chicago, in .dwg format.. Let me know if anyone has this, Thanks, Mike
jackb602
Several years ago, I bought a block of downtown Chicago from Urban Data Solutions. They've apparently merged with another firm, but the models can be found here: http://www.earthdata.com/servicessubcat.php?subcat=2 I'd be curious to hear what they charge. mtutaj
I gave them a call, they guy is supposed to call me tomorrow, I guess they charge by the sq. ft., I think it is way over the top for what i was looking to do. I am looking for just a simple massing of the buildings, no detail. Worse case is that I will have to fudge something myself. Anyone else have some ideas? Brian Cassil
It wonder if there is a way of extracting the 3D models from google earth?
Ernest Burden III
It wonder if there is a way of extracting the 3D models from google earth? Well there's the holy grail. Grab those models for our devious purposes. You could save a view from Google Earth and camera-map it in modeling software and extrude from there. It would be a lot of work no matter how you tackled it. This appears to be a rendering company, so they probably would not want to share their data: http://chicago.visualizedconcepts.com/ but if you knew your exact view maybe you could subcontract them to render a background for you.
