d7man2000
is it possible to make an object one-sided like with Max native material. let's say I make a cube and flip all faces, now I can see what's going on inside the cube no matter what material I use, with Vray Material everything is blocked, it doesn't work the same
olbo
Hello Greg, I'm pretty new to VRay, but as far as I know the answer is "yes/no". Take a look at this pic ... You can turn this option on and off, unfortunately this will not help you to achive the effect you want. You can make a plane one or two sided, but you can't use this option to "open" a box ... Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I've read. ;o) take care Oleg
AJLynn
I've tried it before, and it does not do what you'd expect it to. You have other options - edit the geometry or assign a transparent meterial to the polygons you want to look through. If it doesn't have to be Vray, you can get mental ray to do the effect you're looking for - I've used it to do things like plan views with GI for light studies (a plan facing down for the ceiling will be invisible from the top but will bounce the GI photons). Ismael
The way I do that is to apply a Blur Studios Utility Material on a Double sided material. Set the Ray level Visibility to 1 to 1, or 1 to 100; it does not matter for stills. It does not affect render time like a Tranparent material would. What it really becomes is a see through material, back culling. That material has other uses like it can be visible in reflection but not rendered. For fun if used for the outside walls of a room, set the walls to not cast shadows; now you can shine lights through the walls!! Is that cool (or weird) or what? Definitely fun. Well, there ya go.
