v-ray 1.47 crash's with max 8 using vray framebuffer

hi,

i got a problem with v-ray runing on max 8. whenever i render something out above 2000px by 2000px using vray's frame buffer 3d max crashes. BUT when i don't use vray's frame buffer it renders fine. I need to use the frame buffer to get vray's passes out.

 

i was wondering if some had the same problem.

 

I also tested this on max 7 and there seem's to be no problem with it.

Hello Ravi,

 

I don't have this problem here, but you could try something ...

Often disabling the Max framebuffer is not enough, use a resolution of 20x20

for the Max framebuffer and disable it. Now disable the "get resolution from MAX"

option in the Vray options and manualy input your needed resolution for the Vray framebuffer.

 

Sometimes this is the right solution, don't know if it will work for you.

Hopefully it is ... :D :D :D

you are very welcome. Since I'm pretty new to Vray myself I don't have

much more ideas. Just a few questions, ... does this happen to all scenes

that you wish to render at such high resolution? Does this happen if you

wanna render passes only, or in general? Hope we can sort this out ... ;o)

I've had this problem with max 7 too and have ended up going back to using the max frame buffer for important renders. I seem to remember someone at Chaosgroup saying it was just really in development and shouldn't be used for serious work. It's a shame - it's got some great functionality

I seem to recall the issue discussed on the chaosgroup forum. I've had crashes as well using the V-Ray Frame Buffer (VFB) specially when zooming in or out. The solution for hi-res renders is to set it to "V-Ray raw image file" This will create a file as you render with the extension of .vrimg. You can open this with the RAM Player and save it to whatever you want. I believe there is an option to save the G-buffer as well although I haven't used it.

 

As with most software it's not perfect. There's a lot of people using MS Windows and it sure as hell is not perfect... As for using it for serious work, that's all I do with it.

yup it happends to all of my scenes

i have tested vray frame buffer with just a teapot @ high px and it still crashes.

as for saving it out as a 'V-Ray raw image file' can you extract vray passes out from that and save them separately?

The only reason i'm using the vray frame buffer is to extract out the passes is there any other way i can extract vray passes out?

I have had the problem with Viz05. After emailing Chaos Group this is the email they sent me. I haven't tried any of their suggestions yet.

 

Well actually this is a problem connected with the memory issue.

Renderign on small resolution is OK, but when You hit the 3K/2K,

it is consuming much more memory.

 

Some suggestions:

#1 Actually this has nothing to do

with V-Ray, as it is a limitation of Win OS. I keeps about 200MB for

itself and let all the rest 1.7-1.8 for the application (in your case:

MAX + V-Ray). So I suppose your are hitting that edge of 1.8GB RAM,

and MAX crashes. Try using the /3GB switch, refer to this link:

#2 Consider turning lots of heavy geometry to VRayProxies...This will

also save You some memory, as the proxied geometry are being read form

a file.
