PabloEscobar
Hey guys, Im new to this forum, so first of all HI, to all of you here. I wanted to say that 98% of all this work i seen here is FLAT AmAziNg!!! Unreal!! how good u guys make 3Dstudio max look here, I mean the photorealizm is just breath taking, so naturally where else can i go to ask questions ....right!! My background is 3D Computer animation/2D illustration not architecture, but i love buildings also, theres just too much math involved in it ...lol...nway Im working on a gas station project, in NJ for a consulting company, and ive done the work, but compared to the work i c here, my work just flat out sucks!!....I mean how the hell do i ,make my rendering look as real as some of the work here ???? How do i use Vray, Mental ray etc.. i keep reading about???\ How do i set up the great lighting i see here??? This is my work, please advise me on where to find tutorials anout rendering and or tell me how to make this render look the way ur guys renderings look. Please...work with this file with me. Im attaching what i considered FINISHED WORK until i discovered this Forum:rolleyes: Help me make this as good as it can look, with vray, brazil and or texture shacker ...whatever it takes.....i want this to have shine like all of your pictures Thanx Pete

RODRI
hi pablo! first of all, i like your render is very realistic!!. you can learn about vray with a couple of tutorial in: http://www.osmosis.com. nice tutorial.
Jonathan Sanchez
Hey Pablo welcome aboard. Your renderings are not so bad. The only thing missing is a great tool called global illumination. It is the way 3d programs calculate realistic light bounces. Study about it. If you use scanline renderer you have radiosity or light tracer. If you use vray you have a bunch of rendering engines such as irradiance map and light maps. Study how light works and bounces in real life and apply it to 3d and you'll be well on your way a great vizualizer.
animart
hi pablo but the important thing is that you take the time to play with renders, looks for tutorials on GI, here same you found many http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/default.asp
Tim Saunders
Agreed that you have to get a handle on gi. That is really the first step in setting apart your renderings from the majority of the small time rendering folks out there. It's hard to say jump right into vray or another rendering plug-in right off the bat. One main question that needs to be answered is what software are you using? If max or viz, like Jon Sanchez mentioned, you can actually get great results by using radiosity and photometric lights. Read all the help files you can related to radiosity. Then search for tutorials on radiosity. Then once you get a basic handle on radiosity, if your still not satisfied (like me), try out Vray Free. And of coarse, post your work for cc. The images you posted here aren't too bad, they aren 't too close up either so it is hard to judge them too much.

Ok ok, now im getting somewhere, Yea tim i use max, and i did my rendering using default skyline render...nothing i guess......and my lights a a damm bunch of omnis, and a target spot here and there. I just do what i need to do in order to get the image done ....which is not exactly the right way, if i need a reflection , i basically just put a spot on that object instead of using global light and tinkering with it to get the best result, and thats my problem. Thanx to all that responded ....thats what i needed.... and i do want to get v ray....i think i already found it free but i need to try it Animart-thanx for the site ....thats what im kinda looking for ..good sources for tutorials, in renders and lighting , but without spending too much time reading about it. My background is animation, so i spend a lot of time modeling and research, so spending time reading about lights isnt my thing, i kinda like a ready formula that i can use and tailor to my needs without much guess work. Tim---if u seen that model up close u would shoot me....oololol....its all smoke and mirrors:D ....thats y it a far shot plus i had to match the picture of a existing gas station and its angle. But that image is something that i want to include in my portfolio so thats y i want to make it better. Thanx for the critique.
