Problem to create multi-stories building

I use ADT 2004 with VIZRender. I am currently producing a 7 floors building but it is impossible to put together as a whole building because my computer can't bear it of its capacity. So far it can manage just 3 floors. I don't understand how I see other people's work managed to create a building with over 10 floors with some objects inside. Mind you, on my building with each floor have no objects inside - just walls and windows. please give me any ideas how I can able to create several floors together without slowing my computer. Thanks for your time.

Buttman,

Try setting up your view in ADT to use low detail setting instead of medium detail or higher. It will not show hatching in ADT but will link to VIZ render much better. Also, try purging the autocad file to rid it of any unnecessary information. By the way, are you creating your view using different constructs and not having everything in one file like I have seen some folks try? It can make a BIG difference. You should be having no problems with you setup as it is virtually the same as mine. If you want to send me all your construct drawings I will see what I can do with it for you. E-mail me at john_deanna@comporium.net

I saw your mention of this in Strat's thread and was pretty confused, but now I see you are using Viz Render :) I don't know it that well, but I've seen it broken and misused by enough people that I can give you some tips.

There are some pretty standard problems you've got here, that are compounded by the way ADT/Viz Render works and the way people tend to work with ADT/Viz Render. ADT is able to generate high-poly models without really thinkin about it, esp. if you start doing things like fitting out every office in the building with furniture from Design Center because it's easy. You need to keep the number of polygons in the scene relatively low, because Viz Render is not at all fast.

Also, sometimes if you are importing an Autocad file and it seems to crash, it's just taking a lot time to import - it can take hours and still end up with a usable model.

And, Customize menu -> Preferences -> Viewports tab, there is a Display Driver section, if it doesn't say OpenGL, change it to OpenGL. Software screen mode + complex model = slow computer.

Thanks alot guys! I switched into OpenGL and it works!! It used to run on the weighty of 1.32GB and very often use 30% - 40% of its CPU, now it's 300MB and often runs at 0% to 10%. Now that is a MASSIVE difference and I am utter relieved...also in tears...

Oh jeez! I'm back into square one! I can't open my file and asked to shut down to switch into "realtime" mode. Still, it won't work as I waited over 5 hours long of loading my file. I have already switched into OpenGL and changed some part of my current model. Need help guys.

Okay, so the change to OpenGL doesn't affect your file - you can always restart Viz Render, switch back, restart Viz Render again and reload your file - if it crashes in both the OpenGL and non-OpenGL cases, the problem isn't OpenGL.

Also, I would recommend updating your video driver. Unfortunately if you got your Quadro card with your Dell it might only accept drivers downloaded from the Dell web site - but try nVidia.com's Quadro drivers first. Dell updates their versions very infrequently.

If you have a driver from, say, 2003, and Dell's web site can't get you a better one, and you can't use nVidia's, there are ways to get around this by modifying the file that describes which card corresponds to which driver. I had this problem with a Precision laptop, Dell's driver was about 20 versions old and full of problems, and I ended up with the newest one courtesy of some help from laptopvideo2go.com, but I don't know how to do this with desktops.
