This "mass model" project is driving me nucking futs

i Think i have gone somewhat beyond The original scope of work

(but hey i was willing To do This anyways)

The TOPO arggh = 12 mb file reduced with Civil 3d down To 400 kb

There is a way To downsize splinesegs & splframes variable settings

after The fact, a civil friend of mine did This for me

Otherwise, The file was Too much for my 3.4 To handle

This is a hillside desert project

lots of fun so far and still more To go

any comments will be greatly appreciated

rendered with mental ray by mental randy

i made The mistake of Turning "final gather" on, o no

Img #3 ok what gives, under attack by spaced aliens

The colors got whacked out, especially The Topo

Thanks

Hey Randy,

What about rendering out a high-res Z-depth pass from the top view, bringing it into Photoshop, blurring it a little to add some organic feeling to it and to lose the hard edges. Then, use it as a displacement map on a mesh of the same proportion. After that's done, you can use another displacement map with Mental Ray to do render-time MTD displacement of finer ground features on the UVW mapped plane.

Just an idea,

Andrew

I had to do one of these, banged my head against it for a couple hours fruitlessly (and this is with 2 gigs and a new FireGL) and then said "nuck it" and brought about half the splines into C4D and remodeled the surface with a NURBS plane and faked the rough quality with bump map, took 15 minutes.

Strat Thanks for The reply, it can only get better

The most interesting part of The Image is something

That i can not control or understand how why it happened

Andrew That is a different way of doing Things, Thanks for The suggestion

and for opening my eyes To another way To look at This, unfortunately for me

The site Topo is very specific and i was given The "existing" Topo To work with

and when i went To place The bldg into its proper location The xstg Topo covered up quite a bit of The residence

so i learned everything That i dont know about vertex editing The site mesh

The cut into The hillside is quite deep at points and varies from The detached garage To The detached guest house

i might have To re-attempt This someday

AJ i am glad That a friend suggested The "workaround" using autodesk Civil 3d and making a TIN Then redoing The plines Then saving To a much smaller

file size, it made all The difference in The world To be able To get anything done

Thanks for The suggestions
